Privacy policy

Indie Games Show is a place to discover indie games and talk to the people making them. This page says what the site stores about you, why, and how to get rid of it. If something here does not match what the site does, treat that as a bug and tell us.
What we store
- Your account: email address, username, password (stored only as a hash that cannot be reversed), language, and anything optional you fill in yourself — display name, avatar link, bio, location, country, website, social handles.
- What you post: game listings, votes, comments, replies, private feedback to developers and private messages.
- If you sign in with Google or Discord: that provider's permanent account id for you, and the email address it reports. We never receive your password there, and we ask only for your identity and email address.
- Usage counts: which game pages were opened and which store links were clicked. These are counted with a keyed one-way hash of your IP address, not the address itself, and they are used for the view and click numbers a developer sees.
- Safety records: failed sign-in counts, rate-limit counters, active sessions, and a staff action log covering suspensions, takedowns and role changes.
The site accepts no file uploads from members. Images and videos are links to somewhere else, so nothing you own is hosted here.
Why we store it
To run your account and show your posts, to count what a developer needs to see, to keep spam and abuse off the site, and to send the few emails the site needs to send: confirming your address, resetting your password, and notifications you have not switched off. Nothing here is sold, rented or used to build an advertising profile.
Cookies
- A session cookie, so the site knows it is still you between pages. It expires when you close the browser.
- If you tick "Remember me", one further cookie that lasts up to 90 days. You can end it by signing out, and end every other device from your profile.
Both are needed for the site to work at all, and neither is used for advertising or shared with anyone.
Who else sees it
- Google or Discord, but only if you choose to sign in with them, and only to confirm who you are.
- YouTube or Vimeo, when a page you open embeds a trailer hosted there.
- The company hosting the site and the mailbox provider that carries our email, because the site runs on their machines.
Anything you post publicly — a listing, a comment, a vote count — is public by design. Private messages and private developer feedback are not public; staff can reach them only where a report or a moderation case makes that necessary, and doing so is logged.
Developers we write to
Now and then the site writes one email to the developer of a game, about that game’s page here or about listing it, at an address the developer published themselves on the game’s store page or their own website. We keep that address, the page it was on and when we wrote, and use it for nothing else. The link in that email deletes the address at once. Otherwise it is deleted 90 days after the email, and an address we found but did not write to is deleted within 30 days. After that we keep only a keyed one-way fingerprint of it, so that we never write to it twice.
How long we keep it
Your account and what you posted stay until you delete them or ask us to. Raw usage rows are deleted after 90 days; only the totals remain. Security and moderation records are kept longer, because a log that can be erased is not a log.
Your choices
- Edit or clear most of your profile yourself, in your settings.
- Disconnect Google or Discord at any time in your settings, as long as another way into your account remains.
- Ask for a copy of your data, or ask for your account to be deleted, by writing to info@indiegamesshow.com. We answer within 30 days. Deleting an account removes the account and its private content; public posts may be kept without your name where a discussion would otherwise become unreadable.
Children
Accounts are not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has made one, write to us and we will remove it.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date above changes and the site says so. Questions, corrections and complaints: info@indiegamesshow.com.
